Many self publishing authors remember that moment when they discovered their E-book on an illegal site. After the disbelief comes anger, followed by helplessness. How can it be that someone offers the book on an Internet platform for downloading against the will of the author? This is illegal. Can we do something about it or must we accept this theft? Very often the same reactions are the answer to the helpless questions by an affected author: view it as free advertising. The people who download books there do not legally buy your book anyway. But is that really true? I guess new self-publishing authors do not worry about it too much. They just want to get their name out there and if you have more than one book on offer it isn't too much of a problem. But how much money do you really lose. So far, there does not seem to be a satisfying answer.
